Developed in Brooklyn, New York, on the former Rheingold Brewery brownfield site, Rheingold Gardens is an affordable, “green,” mixed-use large-scale urban renewal project. Interested in preserving the history of the site, the new homes were designed with pitched roofs to recall vernacular townhouses in the former Dutch settlement named “Bushwicke.” To allow the townhouses to present a pedestrian ‘friendly’ face to the street, parking is provided behind the homes. These homes were designed to sell to moderate income families, with restrictions on the rent the homeowners can charge for the rental units on their property, thereby limiting these rentals to tenants making below 80% AMI.
